Abilify Withdrawal

Abilify Dependence and Withdrawal are Real and Dangerous

In the FDA studies, withdrawal was experienced with immediate cessation of the drug and baby monkeys were born dependent on Abilify.  Causality was established. The study did not describe the symptoms nor did it test on a slow over time cessation of the drug, nor if other drugs were given after the cessation of Abilify.

Abrupt Cessation Abilify Withdrawal

In the FDA studies, withdrawal was experienced with immediate cessation of the drug and baby monkeys were born dependent on Abilify.

The survivor ceased taking Abilify for a few days in early 2009 and suffered abdominal pain, tearing and migraine headaches.  Shortly thereafter, after back on Abilify, the pain ceased.

Tapering Off Gradually Abilify Withdrawal

In 2011, the survivor was tapered off Abilify by the provider.  Between 20-25 days after the last dosage of Abilify, the Survivor suffered weak upper arm strength and went on to suffer abdominal pain, severe pain like bee stings in the belly, slaps on the back, fists socking in the groin/vaginal area.  There were then adrenaline rushes that lasted for weeks at time and would not cease. This lead to despondency, anger, and compulsive behavior. Its manifestation included the throwing of household items and other compulsive behavior including cutting oneself and the taking of pills.  This lasted for about two months and never fully dissipated. The survivor took Abilify during this time for a day or two and the pain stopped while the Abilify was being taken. Once the drug was stopped, the symptoms resumed. At times, the survivor even became paralyzed in the morning and had a very difficult time moving parts of her body so as to get up.

In the early stages of the withdrawal, the survivor was very sensitive to light and to smells and to touch (the type of fabric touching the skin).

Abilify Withdrawal While On Other Medication

In 2012, at the same timetable (20-25 days after the last dosage) , the survivor suffered severe abdominal pain and back pain and agitation as well as frequent urination, and nail breaking.  No destructive behavior was reported. This lasted approximately 30 days.

When the ensuing medication was ceased, the pain from the Abilify returned.
